FAQ Nails

What is Shellac?

Created by CND, it's a 4 step manicure cured under UV/LED light. Thanks to a mix of polymers and monomers which harden to a high shine finish that lasts around a fortnight. It's a blend of nail varnish and gel that paints the nail and doesn't extend or shape it.

What is the difference between gel and acrylic nails?

Both are artificial nail enhancements. Can be used to match or extend shape of nail. Acrylic nails are a combination of a liquid monomer and powder polymer creating a hard protective layer over natural nails - hardens as it's exposed to air.

Acrylic is transparent and a polish is normally added after.

Advantages

- provides a perfect canvas for applying colour

- hard and robust

- long lasting

- easy removal

Disadvantages

- can damage your nail bed

-doesn't look natural

- application involves chemicals/fumes

Gels are brushed onto your nails and cured under UV light. More flexible than acrylic . Has to be buffed off. Same advantages/disadvantages as above.

How long does Shellac last?

Around a fortnight although it's not uncommon for it to last 3-4 weeks on some.

What nail art do you do?

Basic nail art at the moment including Christmas nails. We plan on developing this skill in the future.

What is IBX?

IBX is an intense treatment to target imperfections and weaknesses that prevent natural nails from growing long. It also improves nail plate integrity under any gel polish coating; particularly good for weak/thin and damaged nails.

What is a callus peel and how does it work?

Have you been avoiding wearing sandals because you suffer with stubborn dry skin on your feet? Callus peels are great for this and work by the soft peel penetrating the epidermal layer of the skin, softening the callus to enable dead skin to be removed and then smoothed. This treatment can be added onto your Shellac application on toes, because of how we perform the service we don't recommend added this treatment onto a full pedicure. To get the main benefits from Callus peels we recommend having a callus peel treatment around every 3 weeks until your dry skin is fully removed.

What is builder gel?

It's a medium to thick viscosity gel used to create and build shape. Commonly used for nail extensions and natural nail overlays.

What age can you have Shellac done?

For insurance reasons you need to be 16 years old to have Shellac applied however with parental consent we are happy to do 14 years and up.

With over 100 different colours, glitters, powders and neon's to choose from make sure you have time to pick the perfect colour.
